What Does John 2:22 Mean?
John is honest about the lag: at the time, the disciples understood the riddle no better than the authorities did. Only when Jesus rose from the dead did the words return to them with their meaning shining through — just as he promised the Spirit would bring his sayings to their remembrance (John 14:26).
