What Does John 2:8 Mean?
The governor of the feast was the head steward, charged with managing the banquet and judging its wine. Jesus performs no visible act over the jars; somewhere between the drawing and the tasting, water is simply wine. He sends the evidence straight to the most discerning palate in the room.
This command stretches faith further than the first. To ladle out what went in as water and serve it to the man whose role is to judge it — that takes real trust. Yet they bare it, and the carrying became the discovering. It is often so with Christ: the proof of what he has done appears in the act of obeying, not before it. We see the miracle as we bring the cup.
