What Does John 5:22 Mean?
The second greater work is judgment. Scripture names God the Judge of all the earth (Genesis 18:25); Jesus declares that the Father has placed all judgment in the Son's hands. No one's final reckoning will happen apart from him.
That is sobering, and strangely comforting. The Judge of all is the one who noticed a forgotten man at Bethesda and crossed the porch to reach him. Judgment belongs to the one who came to seek and to save that which was lost (Luke 19:10). No one will stand before a stranger; every life will be weighed by the one who loved it enough to come.
