What Does John 7:25 Mean?
Unlike the pilgrims who scoffed at the idea of a plot (verse 20), the people of Jerusalem know their leaders' intentions. Seeing Jesus teaching openly, they ask in surprise: is not this the man they want dead?
The city knows of the plot and lets it stand; awareness is not innocence. Meanwhile the hunted man teaches calmly in the temple's open courts. The scene quietly shows who actually governs events — not the council with its warrants, but the Father, whose hour for the Son has not yet come (verse 30).
