Joshua 10:16 Meaning and Explanation

The narrative now follows the five kings who led the coalition. Defeated and scattered, they flee and hide themselves in a cave at Makkedah. The mighty rulers who had marched up with all their hosts are reduced to crouching in darkness, hoping the earth will conceal them.

There is a sober picture here of where rebellion against God finally leads. The kings who sought to destroy God's people end by hiding in a hole in the ground. No cave is deep enough to hide from the Lord, and no power arrayed against His purposes outlasts the day of reckoning. What began in proud alliance ends in fearful concealment.
