What Does Joshua 2:19 Mean?
The men spell out the boundary of safety. Whoever goes out of the doors of Rahab's house into the street will be responsible for his own life, but whoever stays inside with her will be under their guarantee; should any harm come to them, the men will bear the guilt. The threshold marks the line between safety and danger.
The promise of refuge is real, but it must be received by remaining where deliverance is found. To step outside the appointed shelter is to leave its protection behind.
