What Does Judges 11:24 Mean?
Jephthah meets the king on his own terms. The Ammonites keep whatever land they believe Chemosh has given them; just so, Israel keeps what the LORD their God has given. He turns the king's own logic of divinely granted territory back upon him.
Jephthah's deeper conviction is plain in the contrast: he names the LORD as our God, the living One who actually drives out nations before his people. Whatever the nations may claim for their idols, Israel's inheritance rests on the true and living God who keeps his promises.
