What Does Judges 16:6 Mean?
Delilah begins her work with a question that is anything but innocent. She asks Samson directly for the secret of his strength and, openly, how he might be bound and afflicted, the very words the lords had used to her.
That she asks so plainly, even naming the goal of binding and harming him, shows how little she conceals her intent. Samson's peril is not that the snare is hidden but that he refuses to see it. We can be most blind precisely where we most want to be deceived. The verse cautions that comfort with danger, the willingness to play near it, is itself a step toward the fall the danger intends.
