What Does Judges 2:1 Mean?
The book has just recounted Israel's incomplete conquest. Now a heavenly messenger travels from Gilgal, the camp of Israel's first victories, to a place soon named Bochim. He speaks in the first person for the LORD, reminding the people of the great acts that brought them this far: the exodus from Egypt and the gift of the land promised to the patriarchs.
God leads with grace before He names any fault. He rehearses what He has done and reaffirms His own faithfulness: 'I will never break my covenant.' The unbreakable side of the covenant is always God's. This same steadfast love runs through Scripture to its fulfillment in Christ, in whom every promise of God finds its yes.
