1 Chronicles begins by looking back at God's big family — a long list of names that starts all the way back at the very first person.
Today's Story
1 Chronicles starts in a surprising way. It starts with a long, long list of names!
The very first name is Adam — the first person God ever made. Then comes his son, and his son's son, and on and on. Name after name after name, like a giant family tree that fills the whole page.
Some of the names you might know, like Noah, who built the big boat. And Abraham, who trusted God to lead him to a new home. Many other names you have never heard before. But God knew every single one.
Why write down so many names? Because each name was a real person God loved. Each one had a mom and a dad. Each one mattered. God remembered them all, one by one, even the ones nobody else remembered.
This is God's family, carried through the years, all the way from the first person to you.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- Can you name some of the people in OUR family — grandmas, grandpas, aunts, and uncles?
- God remembered every name on that long list. How does it feel to know God remembers YOUR name?
- Some names on the list were people nobody else remembered. Why do you think every person matters to God?
