The ark is finally home! To celebrate, David gives the people a brand-new song — a thank-you song to God that we still sing today.
Today's Story
At last, the golden ark was home in Jerusalem. David and the people set it gently inside a special tent God's helpers had made ready. Then David gave out bread and treats to every single person there — a happy gift for the whole crowd.
But David wasn't finished celebrating. His heart was so full of thanks that he wanted to put it into words. So he wrote a song and gave it to a worship leader named Asaph and his singers to sing out loud.
What a song it was! “Give thanks to the LORD! Tell everyone what He has done!” it began. “Sing to Him! Sing praise to Him! Be glad! Remember the wonderful things He has done!”
The song reminded everyone how great God is. It even said the trees of the forest sing for joy and the whole earth is glad because of Him.
And near the end came a line the people would never forget: “Give thanks to the LORD, because He is good. His faithful love continues forever.” The whole crowd shouted back, “Amen!” and praised the LORD together.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- If you wrote a thank-you song to God today, what is the very first thing you would thank Him for?
- The song says God's love “continues forever.” What does it mean that God's love never, ever runs out?
- David thanked God out loud in front of everyone. Who is someone you could tell about a good thing God has done?
