David had a big dream: a beautiful house where everyone could come and worship God. He couldn't build it himself — so he got everything ready for his son to build it instead.
Today's Story
King David loved God so much that he dreamed of building a beautiful temple — a special house where God's people could come and worship together.
But God told David, “You will not be the one to build it. Your son Solomon will build my house.” David could have been sad or grumpy. Instead, David decided to help in a different way: he would get everything ready so the job would be easier for Solomon.
So David gathered piles and piles of supplies. Big blocks of stone. Heaps of iron for nails. So much wood. Shiny gold and silver. He found skilled workers — people good at cutting stone and building. He stacked it all up, ready and waiting.
Then David called Solomon close and gave him a loving job. “Build the house of the LORD,” he said. “Be strong and brave. Do not be afraid. Don't lose hope. The LORD your God is with you.”
David couldn't do the whole job — but he did everything he could to make it easier for the person who came next. That is a beautiful way to love.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- David got things ready to make someone else's job easier. How could you get something ready to help your family today — setting the table, picking up toys, laying out clothes?
- David couldn't build the temple himself, but he didn't get grumpy. How can you help with a job even when you can't do the whole thing?
- David told Solomon, “Be strong and brave, God is with you.” What is a big job you'd feel braver about if you remembered God is with you?
