1 Chronicles 23 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

When King David got things ready for God's house, he gave everyone a job to do — and one of the best jobs of all was simply to thank and praise God.

Today's Story

God's beautiful house was going to need a lot of helpers. So old King David called together a big family of helpers called the Levites and gave each group its very own job.

Some helpers would look after the building and keep it clean and ready. Some would carry things and guard the gates. Some would help bake the special bread. Some would count out the supplies. Every single helper mattered, and every job was important.

But David saved a wonderful job for one special group. Their job was simply this: to stand and thank God and praise Him — every single morning when the sun came up, and every single evening when the sun went down.

Imagine that! While other helpers swept and carried and counted, this group's job was to sing, “Thank You, God! You are so good!” morning and night.

God gave each helper a different job. And thanking God was so important that some people did it as their whole job — all day long.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. The helpers thanked God every morning and every evening. What is one thing you could thank God for first thing tomorrow morning?
  2. Every helper had a different job, and they all mattered. What job do you do that helps your family?
  3. Some people praised God as their whole job. What is your favorite way to tell God He is wonderful — singing, drawing, dancing, or talking to Him?
