1 Chronicles 28 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Old King David gathers everyone together to pass a big job to his son Solomon — and to give him the bravest words a dad can give.

Today's Story

King David was getting old now. He called all of Israel together for an important day. He stood up in front of everyone, his son Solomon beside him, and he had something to say.

For a long time, David had dreamed of building a beautiful house for God. But God had a different plan: Solomon would be the one to build it. So David was ready to hand the dream to his son.

David gave Solomon the plans for God's house — every room, every door, even how much gold and silver each part should be. He had gotten it all ready so Solomon would know just what to do.

Then David looked his son in the eyes and said the bravest words: “Be strong and brave, and do the work. Don't be afraid. The LORD God — my God — is with you. He will not leave you until the work is finished.”

What a gift! David couldn't build the house himself. But he could get it ready, cheer his son on, and remind him of the most important thing: God is with you.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. What is something that feels a little big or scary for you to do? How might it help to remember God is with you?
  2. David couldn't finish his dream, so he cheered for Solomon to do it. Who is someone YOU could cheer on to do something good?
  3. David said, “God will not leave you.” How does it feel to know God stays with you the whole time, all the way to the end?
