King David is very old now. Someone tries to grab the crown for himself - but God already has a plan for who the next king will be.
Today's Story
King David was old and tired. Everyone knew a new king would be needed soon.
One of David's sons, named Adonijah, decided he didn't want to wait for God to choose. He threw himself a big party and announced, “I'm going to be king!” But he hadn't asked God, and he hadn't asked his father.
The prophet Nathan heard about it and hurried to David. “Did you know Adonijah is making himself king?”
David sat up. “No,” he said. “Solomon is the one God chose. Quick - put Solomon on my own royal mule, take him down to the spring, and anoint him king!”
So they did. They poured the special oil on Solomon, blew the trumpet, and the whole crowd shouted, “Long live King Solomon!” The cheering was so loud the ground seemed to shake.
Adonijah's party went silent. His plan had fallen apart. Because here's the thing: God decides who His king is - and no one can push God's plan aside.
