For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up
God gives a young messenger very clear instructions. The hard part isn't hearing them - it's sticking to them when someone says something different.
Today's Story
God sent a brave young man to deliver an important message to a king. And God gave him three clear instructions: “Say My message. Don't stop to eat or drink there. And go home a different way than you came.”
The young man did great at first! He gave God's message boldly. When the king offered him a fancy meal, he said, “No thank you - God told me not to.” So far, so good. He was obeying.
But on his way home, an older man stopped him. “Come eat at my house,” he said. “An angel told me it's okay!” That wasn't true - but the young man believed the man instead of remembering what God had clearly said.
And so he turned aside and disobeyed. Sadly, it did not go well for him after that.
It's a serious story with an important lesson: when God has told you something clearly, hold onto it tight. Don't let anyone - not even a grown-up - talk you out of doing what God said is right.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- The young man knew what God said, but someone talked him out of it. Has anyone ever tried to talk you into something you knew was wrong?
- How can you remember what's right when someone says, “It's okay, just this once”?
- Why is it important to do what's right all the way, not just at the start?
