1 Kings 14 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Now there are two kingdoms with two kings - and both of them start to forget God. But God never forgets them.

Today's Story

After the kingdom split in two, there were now two kings: Jeroboam, leading the northern part, and Rehoboam, leading the southern part. And sadly, both of them began to drift away from God.

One day Jeroboam's little boy got sick. Jeroboam sent his wife to ask God's old prophet, Ahijah, what would happen. The prophet had hard news. But he also said something tender: out of that whole family, God had found something good in the heart of that one little child.

Isn't that amazing? Even when grown-up kings were forgetting God, God still looked closely and saw the good in a child's heart. God always looks at what's inside a person.

And even though both kings kept wandering, God kept sending prophets to tell them the truth and call them back. God never gave up on His people. He kept reaching out, again and again, hoping they would turn back to Him.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. God looks at what's inside our hearts, not just the outside. What do you think God sees when He looks at your heart?
  2. God kept sending prophets to call the kings back. Why do you think God never gives up on people?
  3. God noticed the good in a little child. What is a good thing in your heart that you think makes God smile?
