1 Kings 16 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Things in the northern kingdom go from bad to worse, all the way to the worst king yet. But God is never out of good ideas.

Today's Story

In the northern kingdom, king after king came and went, and most of them forgot all about God. It was a rough, sad stretch of time.

And then came the worst one yet: a king named Ahab. Ahab led the people further away from God than any king before him. He even started worshiping pretend gods instead of the one true God. Things looked very dark for God's people.

When a story gets this dark, you might wonder: is there any hope left? Has God given up?

No! God is never out of good ideas. Even when things look their darkest, God always has someone ready to stand up and shine for Him.

And do you know what was coming next? God was about to send one of the bravest prophets in the whole Bible - a man named Elijah - to stand right up to King Ahab. The darkest moment was about to meet one of God's brightest heroes. Hope was on the way.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Even at the darkest moment, God had a hero ready. When something feels hopeless, how does it help to remember God has a plan?
  2. Ahab led people the wrong way. Who is someone who leads you in a good way?
  3. God was about to send brave Elijah. Would you like to be brave for God? What might that look like?
