1 Kings 20 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

A huge enemy army shows up, sure they will win. But God is about to teach everyone who is really in charge.

Today's Story

A powerful king brought a giant army to attack God's people. He was so confident he laughed and bragged, “There are way too many of us! You don't stand a chance.”

The army of Israel was small and scared. It really did look hopeless.

But God sent a prophet with a message: “Do you see that huge army? I am going to hand it over to you. And then you will know something important - you will know that I am the LORD.”

And that's exactly what happened! God gave the small army the victory over the big one. The bragging king learned the hard way that no army is bigger than God.

God didn't do it just to win a battle. He did it so His people would know Him - know that He is real, He is strong, and He is the one true God who takes care of them. It was never about how big the army was. It was about how big God is.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. The enemy bragged about being big, but God was bigger. What is a “big” problem that feels scary to you right now?
  2. God wanted His people to know Him through this. What is something you know about God because of how He has helped you?
  3. Why is it good news that winning isn't about being the biggest or strongest?
