Peter keeps writing to God's family. Now he tells them the most important thing of all: love each other deeply.
Today's Story
Peter has been writing about being brave and good. Now he tells God's family the very best way to live: with love.
He says, “Most of all, love one another deeply.” Not just a little love — a big, warm, deep-down love. Peter says love “covers over” lots of wrongs, the way a warm blanket covers you up. When we love people, we are quick to forgive and quick to be kind.
Then Peter says something exciting. He tells them that God has given every single person a special gift. Some people are good at helping. Some are good at sharing. Some are good at cheering others up or telling about God. Peter says we should use our gift to help each other, like passing out presents.
He even says to welcome people into your home and share your food with a happy heart, with no grumbling!
Peter knew some hard days were coming. But he told them not to be surprised or scared. He said when we love each other and help each other, even hard days can be filled with joy, because God is right there with us.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Who is someone you love deeply? What is one way you showed them love today?
- Peter says God gave you a special gift to share. What do you think yours might be — helping, sharing, making people laugh, something else?
- How could you use your gift to help someone in our family or at church this week?
