A woman named Hannah is very sad — but she takes her sadness to the only One who can truly help.
Today's Story
There was a woman named Hannah who was very sad. She wanted a baby more than anything, but she had none, and her heart ached year after year. Some people were even unkind to her about it.
One day, Hannah went to God's house to pray. She was so full of sorrow that she wept and prayed silently, pouring out her whole heart to God. “O Lord,” she prayed, “if You give me a son, I will give him right back to You, to serve You all his life.” She trusted God with her deepest hurt and her biggest hope.
The priest, Eli, saw her praying and blessed her: “Go in peace, and may God give you what you've asked.” Hannah went home with peace in her heart, trusting God.
And God heard Hannah's prayer! In time, she had a baby boy. She named him Samuel, which sounds like “God heard.” Every time she said his name, she remembered: God hears our prayers! When we're sad, we can pour out our whole hearts to God. He hears every prayer, and He cares.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Hannah poured out her whole heart to God when she was sad. What can you talk to God about when you're hurting?
- Hannah named her son “God heard.” How does it feel to know God hears every one of your prayers?
- Hannah trusted God even before her prayer was answered. How can we trust God while we wait?
