1 Samuel 2 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Hannah keeps her promise and bursts into a beautiful song about how great God is.

Today's Story

Hannah had promised to give her son back to God. So when Samuel was old enough, she lovingly brought him to God's house to serve God there, with the priest Eli. It must have been hard to say goodbye, but Hannah trusted God and kept her promise. (And she visited Samuel every year, bringing him a little coat she had made!)

Hannah was so full of joy and thankfulness that she sang a beautiful song of praise to God. “My heart rejoices in the Lord!” she sang. “There is no one holy like the Lord! He lifts up the humble and the poor. He fills the hungry with good things. The Lord is strong, and He cares for His people!”

Hannah's song was all about how great and good God is — how He notices the lowly, lifts up the humble, and does what no one else can. Her heart overflowed with praise.

Meanwhile, little Samuel grew up serving God, and God was with him. Hannah's faithful, praising heart shaped a boy who would become one of God's greatest helpers.
