Saul becomes king — but on his big day, he does something that shows a humble heart.
Today's Story
Samuel anointed Saul with oil, a sign that God had chosen him to be king. God even gave Saul a new heart and His Spirit to help him. Saul was going to be Israel's first king!
Then Samuel gathered all the people together to present their new king. But when it was time for Saul to step forward… he was nowhere to be found! Where was he? The people searched everywhere. And then God showed them: Saul was hiding among the baggage and supplies! The new king was too shy and humble to step out in front of everyone.
They brought Saul out, and there he stood, taller than everyone else. “Look at the king God has chosen!” Samuel said. And the people shouted, “Long live the king!”
It's interesting: on the day he became king, Saul wasn't proud or showing off. He was humble, even hiding! A humble heart is a wonderful way to begin anything. When God gives us something important to do, we can start by staying humble and depending on Him.
