1 Samuel 21 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

David is on the run with no food and no plan. Watch how God takes care of him - right when he needs it most.

Today's Story

David was hungry. He had left home in such a hurry that he had no food and nothing to keep him safe. So he stopped at a town called Nob, where a priest named Ahimelech lived.

“Do you have any bread?” David asked.

The priest looked. The only bread he had was the special bread that had been set apart for God. But David and his men were truly hungry - so the priest gave it to them to eat. God cared more about feeding hungry people than about the rules of the shelf.

With his stomach full, David kept running. But the next place he came to was dangerous - it was the home of his enemies, and they started to recognize him. David was afraid.

So David got clever. He started acting strange and silly, scribbling on the gates and pretending he wasn't anybody important at all. The enemies decided he was no threat and let him go. David slipped away - safe again.

Hungry, then fed. Trapped, then free. God was taking care of David every single step.
