1 Samuel 22 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

David is hiding in a cave - and the cave becomes something surprising: a safe place where hurting people come together.

Today's Story

David found a big cave called Adullam, and he hid there. But he didn't stay alone for long.

One by one, people started showing up at the cave. People who were sad. People who were worried. People who owed money or had nowhere else to go. About four hundred of them came - and David became their leader. The cave turned into a safe place, a shelter for everyone who was hurting.

Meanwhile, King Saul was still chasing David, and his anger spilled over onto others. He did a terrible thing to God's priests at the town of Nob. Only one priest escaped - a young man named Abiathar. With nowhere to run, he hurried to find David.

When David heard what had happened, his heart broke. He looked Abiathar right in the eyes and said, “Stay here with me. Don't be afraid. You will be safe with me.”

And he was. The cave that started as a hiding place became a home for the brokenhearted - because David made room for the ones nobody else would protect.
