1 Samuel 23 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

David is tired and on the run. Today a good friend goes out of his way to find him - just to help him feel brave again.

Today's Story

Even while David was hiding from King Saul, he kept helping people. When he heard that enemies were attacking a town called Keilah, David asked God, “Should I go save them?” God said yes - so David and his men rescued the whole town.

But Saul was still chasing David, day after day, through the wilderness. David had to keep moving, sleeping in caves and forests. It was lonely and exhausting. Some days he must have felt like giving up.

Then one day, someone came looking for him in the woods. It was Jonathan! His best friend had traveled all the way out to the wild hills just to find him.

Jonathan didn't bring an army. He didn't bring food. He brought something better: he helped David find strength in God. “Don't be afraid,” Jonathan said. “God is with you. You can do this.”

And David felt brave again. Later, Saul came so close that he was on one side of a mountain while David was on the other - but David slipped away safely. A true friend's encouragement had helped him hold on.
