Years ago David was promised he would be king one day. But the waiting has been long - and today he's still waiting.
Today's Story
David was so tired of running. Day after day, month after month, King Saul kept chasing him. David just wanted to be somewhere safe.
So David went to live in a faraway land where Saul couldn't reach him. A king there gave David a little town of his own called Ziklag. At last David and his men and their families had a place to rest their heads at night.
But this wasn't the happy ending yet. A long time ago, God had promised that David would be king of Israel someday. And here was David, still waiting, living in a borrowed town in someone else's country. The promise hadn't come true yet.
Waiting that long is really hard. Sometimes we wonder if the good thing will ever come. But God had not forgotten David, not for one single day. The promise was still on its way - and God stayed close to David the whole time he waited.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- David waited years for God's promise. What is the longest you've ever had to wait for something?
- When we wait a long time, we can start to wonder if the good thing will ever come. What helps you keep hoping?
- God stayed close to David every day of the wait. How does it help to know God is with you while you wait?
