1 Thessalonians 2 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

Paul keeps writing to his faraway friends. In this part of the letter, he tells them just how much he cares about them.

Today's Story

Paul really loved the friends he was writing to. And he wanted them to know it was real love — the kind that wants nothing back.

So Paul painted them a picture with words. “We were like a mother caring for her little children,” he said. Think of how gently a mom holds a baby. Think how softly she talks. That is how Paul loved them.

And there was more. “We were like a father with his own children,” Paul said. A good dad cheers you on. He helps you do the right thing. He says, “You can do it!” Paul did all of that too.

Paul did not just tell people about God and walk away. He stayed. He shared his whole life with them, because he loved them so much. He even said they had become “so dear to us.”

That is what God's family is like. We do not just say nice words. We share our lives. We are gentle. We cheer each other on, like a good mom and a good dad.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Who is gentle with you when you feel sad or hurt? What do they do that helps?
  2. Paul cheered his friends on, like a good dad. Who could you cheer on today?
  3. What is the difference between just saying “I love you” and really showing it?
