2 Chronicles 13 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

A small army trusts God against a much bigger one — and finds out that God is the One who really helps.

Today's Story

King Abijah ruled over a part of God's people called Judah. One day, another army came against him — and it was much, much bigger. Abijah had soldiers, but the other side had twice as many.

That would scare anybody! But Abijah stood up on a hill and called out something brave. He said, “God is with us. He is our leader.” Abijah and his people had not forgotten the LORD. They still prayed to Him and worshiped Him.

Then the trouble got worse. The big army snuck around behind them, so now Judah had enemies in front and behind. They were stuck!

So Judah did the best thing they could do: they cried out to God. The priests blew their trumpets, and the soldiers shouted to the LORD for help.

And God helped them. Even though Judah was smaller, they won the day — because they leaned on the LORD their God instead of on themselves.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. Can you remember a time you felt small or scared? What helped you feel brave again?
  2. Judah was outnumbered, but they cried out to God. Who can you cry out to when something feels too big for you?
  3. What does it mean to “lean on” God instead of leaning only on yourself?
