Meet King Asa — a good king who loved God, and who prayed a beautiful prayer when trouble came.
Today's Story
King Asa was a good king. He did what was right and pleasing to God. People in the land had been bowing down to fake gods made of wood and stone, so Asa took those away and told everyone to follow the one true God instead.
Because Asa followed God, the land had peace and rest. There were no wars for a long time. Asa used the quiet years to build strong cities and get ready for whatever might come.
Then one day, the biggest army anyone had ever seen marched toward Judah. So many soldiers! Asa's army was much smaller. What could he do?
Asa did the wisest thing. He prayed. He said, “LORD, there is no one like You. You can help the weak just as easily as the strong. Help us, LORD our God, because we are leaning on You.”
And God heard Asa. God helped His people, and the giant army could not win. Asa learned a wonderful thing that day: it does not matter how small we are, because God is always big enough.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- What is something that feels too big or too hard for you right now?
- Asa prayed and asked God for help before he did anything else. Why is praying first such a good idea?
- God can help the weak just as easily as the strong. How does that make you feel about your big, hard thing?
