The little boy who was hidden away is finally ready — and today the people get to cheer as God's promise comes true!
Today's Story
For six years, little Joash had stayed safely hidden in God's house. Now he was seven years old, and a brave priest named Jehoiada decided it was time.
Jehoiada gathered helpers and guards he could trust. He made a careful plan to keep everyone safe. Then he brought young Joash out where the people could see him.
He placed a crown on Joash's head and gave him God's book to hold. “This is the king God promised!” And the people clapped and cheered and shouted, “Long live the king! Long live the king!” Trumpets blew, and singers sang for joy.
The wrong ruler, Athaliah, heard all the noise and came running. She could not believe it — the real king was alive after all! Her time of doing wrong was over, and she was led away.
Then the people did something wonderful. They tore down the altars they had built for false gods and promised to follow the one true God again. They said, “We will be God's people, and Joash will be our king.”
The whole city was happy and peaceful. God had kept the little boy safe, and now His promise had come true.
