In a very dangerous time, one brave woman hides a tiny baby to keep him safe — and God uses her to protect His promise.
Today's Story
After Jehoram, his son Ahaziah became king. But he listened to the wrong people, and he did not follow God. He was king for only a short time before he died.
Then something frightening happened. Ahaziah's mother, named Athaliah, wanted all the power for herself. She tried to get rid of the whole royal family, so that no one from King David's family would be left to be king.
But God had a brave helper ready. A kind woman named Jehosheba saw what was happening. Quick as can be, she scooped up the littlest baby in the family — a boy named Joash — and carried him away to safety.
She hid baby Joash in a safe room, away from all the danger. For six long years, she and her husband, who was a priest, kept him hidden and took care of him in God's house. No one bad knew he was there.
God had not forgotten His promise to King David's family. Even when it looked like the family was all gone, one tiny baby was safe in God's hands — waiting for the right day. God always finds a way to keep His word.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- Who are the people who keep you safe? How do they take care of you?
- Jehosheba was brave to rescue baby Joash. What do you think it would be like to keep someone safe and hidden for so long?
- Even when things looked scary, God was watching over one little baby. How does that help you trust God when things feel scary?
