2 Chronicles 21 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

A new king named Jehoram makes one bad choice after another — but God still keeps His promise to His people.

Today's Story

After good King Jehoshaphat, his son Jehoram became king. Sadly, Jehoram did not follow God the way his father did.

Jehoram made one wrong choice after another. He was unkind to his own family, and he led the people away from God to worship false gods instead. He stopped listening to what God said was right.

A man who spoke for God sent Jehoram a letter. It warned him: “You have turned away from God. Hard times are coming because of your bad choices.”

And hard times did come. Enemies troubled the land, and Jehoram got very sick. He had walked far away from God, and it made everything go wrong. When he died, hardly anyone was sad — that is how much his choices had hurt people.

But here is the part to remember: even with such a bad king, God did not wipe out His people. Long before, God had made a promise to King David's family, and God always keeps His promises. He was patiently waiting for a better king to come.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. Can you think of a choice you made today — a good one or a not-so-good one? What happened next?
  2. Jehoram kept turning away from God. Why do you think bad choices kept making things worse for him?
  3. Even when the king was bad, God kept His promise. How does it feel to know God always keeps His promises to us?
