This chapter has a sad king named Ahaz — but it also has a surprising, beautiful act of kindness. Watch for it.
Today's Story
King Ahaz did not follow God. He bowed down to fake gods instead, and he led the people the wrong way. Because Judah turned away from God, hard times came, and many people were taken far from home as prisoners.
But then something wonderful happened. A man of God named Oded stood up in front of the soldiers who had taken the prisoners. “Stop!” he said. “These are your own brothers and sisters. Do not be cruel to them. Send them home!”
And amazingly, the leaders listened. They took good care of the prisoners. The Bible says they gave them clothes and sandals, fed them, gave them something to drink, and even helped the weak ones ride on donkeys. Then they walked them all the way back home to their families.
In the middle of a sad story, God's people chose kindness instead of meanness. That choice shined like a light.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Has anyone ever been unkind to you? What is a kind thing you could choose to do, even then?
- The leaders gave the prisoners food, clothes, and a ride home. Which of those kindnesses do you like best, and why?
- Who is someone you know who needs a little kindness this week? What could you do for them?
