2 Chronicles 29 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Meet King Hezekiah — one of the very best kings. The first thing he does is open God's house back up and fill it with singing!

Today's Story

For a long time, the kings before Hezekiah had ignored God's temple. The doors were shut. The lamps were dark. Dust and junk had piled up inside. Nobody worshiped God there anymore.

When Hezekiah became king, he knew exactly what to do first. “Open the doors!” he said. He called the helpers and told them, “Let's clean out God's house and make it ready again.”

They worked hard. They carried out all the junk and swept it clean. They lit the lamps so the temple glowed with light. And then — the best part — the music began! Singers sang, instruments played, and everyone bowed down to worship God with happy hearts.

The Bible says they “sang praises with gladness.” The whole city was full of joy, because God's house was open again. Hezekiah did not wait. He made room for God right away.

  1. What is your favorite song to sing? How does singing make your heart feel?
  2. Hezekiah cleaned out the junk so there was room for God. Is there any “junk” in our hearts we could clear out to make more room for God?
  3. The people worshiped with glad hearts. What is one thing about God that makes you happy and want to praise Him?
