2 Kings 12 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

When something is special to us, we take good care of it. King Joash loved God's house - so he decided to fix it up.

Today's Story

Remember little Joash, the boy God kept safe? Now he was grown up and king, and he did what was right. Joash loved God's house, the temple. But over the years it had grown old and worn out. Cracks here, broken pieces there. It needed fixing.

So Joash had a clever idea. He told the priests to take a big wooden chest, cut a hole in the lid, and set it right by the door of the temple. Whenever people came to worship, they could drop their gifts inside.

And they did! Moms and dads and children brought their money and dropped it in the chest, clink, clink, clink. When the chest was full, the helpers counted it all out and gave it to the workers.

The workers were honest and good. They bought wood and stone, and they fixed the walls and the doors until God's house was strong and beautiful again. Everyone had a part - the ones who gave, and the ones who built.

Together, they took good care of God's house.
