2 Kings 11 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

God once kept a tiny baby safe through a whole scary time. His name was Joash - and God had big plans for him.

Today's Story

A mean queen named Athaliah wanted all the power for herself. She tried to make sure no one from the king's family was left to ever rule. It was a frightening time.

But God had a plan. There was a baby boy named Joash, a little prince. His brave aunt, Jehosheba, scooped him up and hid him away. She tucked him safely inside God's temple, where the mean queen could not find him.

For six whole years, Joash stayed hidden. A kind priest named Jehoiada and his wife took care of the little boy and kept his secret. Year after year, God kept Joash safe.

When Joash turned seven, Jehoiada knew it was time. He gathered the guards and the helpers and stood them all around the boy to keep him safe. Then he brought Joash out, put a crown on his head, and the people clapped and shouted, “Long live the king!”

The wicked queen heard the happy noise and came running. But her time was over. Little Joash, the boy God had kept safe, was the new king. And the whole city was full of joy.

  2. Brave Aunt Jehosheba hid the baby, and kind Jehoiada cared for him. How can we be helpers who keep others safe?
