King Jehu has a big clean-up job to do - getting rid of pretend-god worship so the people can love the true God again.
Today's Story
For a long time, many people in the land had been bowing down to a pretend god named Baal. There was even a big temple built just for him. But Baal was not real, and he could not help anyone. It made God sad to see His people worshiping a fake.
King Jehu decided to put a stop to it. But he was clever about it. He gathered all the people who loved Baal into the temple, pretending he wanted a big celebration. They all came, filling the place from wall to wall.
Once they were inside, Jehu made sure every last bit of the pretend-god worship was cleared out of the land. The Baal temple was knocked down, and the people couldn't use it anymore. The pretend god was gone for good!
God saw what Jehu did, and He was pleased. God told him, “You have done well in doing what is right in my eyes.”
Now, Jehu wasn't perfect - he didn't follow God with his whole heart in everything. But God still noticed the good he did, and God said so out loud. Our God sees the good, even when we're still learning and growing.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Is there something that takes up a lot of your time or thoughts - maybe a toy or a screen? How can we make sure God always comes first?
- Jehu wasn't perfect, but God still noticed the good he did. How does it feel to know God sees the good in you, even while you're still learning?
- Why do you think God wanted the pretend god cleared out completely, not just partly?
