Sometimes wrong things go on for a long, long time, and we wonder if they'll ever be fixed. This is a story about God finally setting things right.
Today's Story
For many years, a king and queen had ruled the land in a very bad way. They didn't love God, and worse, they taught the people to bow down to pretend gods instead of the one true God. They were unkind, and they hurt people who tried to do right. It had gone on for a long, long time.
But God had not forgotten. He had seen every wrong thing. And God decided the time had come to set it all right.
So God chose a soldier named Jehu to be the new king. God sent a young helper to pour oil on Jehu's head - a special sign that he was God's pick. The helper said, “God has chosen you to be king.”
Jehu climbed into his chariot and rode off fast. People who saw him coming said, “He drives like Jehu - like a man on a mission!” And he was. God had given him a job: to put an end to that bad family's rule, so the people could come back to the true God.
It was a serious day. But it meant the long years of wrong were finally over. God had promised to fix what was broken - and God always keeps His promises.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- Have you ever seen something that wasn't fair, and wished someone would fix it? How does it help to know God sees it too?
- God waited a long time, but He did not forget. Why is it good news that God always sets wrong things right in the end?
- God gave Jehu an important job to do. What is a job God might be giving you - even a small one - to help do what's right?
