2 Kings 14 for Kids

For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up

This part of the Bible is full of kings - some who followed God, and some who forgot Him. One king learned that winning can make your heart puffed up.

Today's Story

In these days, there were two lands, side by side: Judah and Israel. Each one had its own king. Some kings loved God and did what was right. Other kings turned away and did wrong. The Bible keeps a careful list of them all.

One of the kings was named Amaziah, and for a while he did what was right. God helped him, and his army won a big battle. Hooray!

But then something happened inside Amaziah's heart. The winning made him feel so big and strong that he got puffed up with pride. He wanted to fight the other king just to show off.

That other king sent back a wise little warning. It was like saying, “Be careful! Don't go looking for trouble just because you won once. Stay home and be happy.”

But Amaziah wouldn't listen. He marched out to fight anyway - and this time, he lost. His proud heart had led him the wrong way.

It is a gentle reminder for all of us: when good things happen, we can thank God and stay humble, instead of getting puffed up.

A Big Word

Talk About It

  1. When you win a game or do something well, how does it make you feel inside?
  2. Amaziah got puffed up after he won. What is the difference between being happy and being puffed up with pride?
  3. When something good happens to us, how can we remember to thank God for helping?
