King Hezekiah gets very sick. He does the best thing anyone can do when they're scared - he prays. And God answers in a way no one expected.
Today's Story
King Hezekiah became very, very sick. He was so unwell that God's prophet Isaiah came and told him, “Get your house ready. You are not going to get better.”
That was hard news. Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall and prayed with all his heart. “Lord,” he said through his tears, “please remember how I have tried to follow You and love You.”
God heard every word. Before Isaiah had even walked all the way out, God told him to turn right back around with a brand-new message: “I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. I am going to make you well - and I will add fifteen more years to your life.”
Fifteen more years! Hezekiah could hardly believe such good news. He asked, “How can I be sure this is really true?”
So God gave him an amazing sign. There were steps outside with a shadow that moved across them as the day went by. God made the shadow go backward - ten steps back! Only the God who made the sun could do something like that. Now Hezekiah was sure. God had heard him, God had healed him, and God could be trusted completely.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- When you feel sick or sad, what makes you feel better? Did you know you can talk to God about it anytime?
- God said, “I have seen your tears.” How does it feel to know God notices even when you cry?
- God moved the shadow backward so Hezekiah could be sure. What are some amazing things God has made that remind you how powerful He is?
