2 Kings 19 for Kids

What do you do with a worry that's too big to carry? King Hezekiah shows us exactly where to take it.

Today's Story

A scary letter arrived for King Hezekiah. It came from the leader of a huge army camped outside the city. The letter was full of big, boastful words: “No one can stop us. Your God will not be able to save you!”

Hezekiah read the letter. His heart pounded. This was a worry far too big for him to fix on his own.

So do you know what Hezekiah did? He took that letter and carried it straight to God's house. He spread the letter out flat - right there in front of God - as if to say, “Lord, look. Look at exactly what it says. I'm bringing the whole thing to You.”

Then he prayed: “LORD, You are the one true God over everything. You made the sky and the earth. Please listen. Please rescue us, so everyone will know that You alone are God.”

And God heard him. God sent word back through His prophet Isaiah: “Do not be afraid. I have heard your prayer. I will take care of this city.”

That very night, God protected His people. By morning the danger was gone - the great army was no longer a threat at all. Hezekiah didn't have to fight. He just had to bring his worry to God and trust Him. And God took care of everything.

A Big Word

Memory Verse

Talk About It

  1. What is something that worries you sometimes? What would it look like to “spread it out” before God like Hezekiah did?
  2. Hezekiah didn't fight the army - he prayed and trusted God to handle it. Why is it good news that God can do what we cannot?
  3. God said, “Do not be afraid. I have heard your prayer.” How does it feel to know God really hears you when you pray?
