Today Elisha helps two families with two amazing miracles - and we see how much God cares about our everyday needs.
Today's Story
A poor widow came to Elisha, crying. “I have no money, and all I own is one little jar of oil!”
“Borrow lots of empty jars,” Elisha said, “and start pouring.” So she did - and her one little jar of oil kept pouring and pouring! It filled jar after jar after jar, until every single one was full. Now she had plenty to sell, with enough to live on. God had taken her tiny bit and made it more than enough.
Elisha also had a kind friend, a woman who always made him a meal and a place to rest. God blessed her with a baby boy she had always wanted. But one sad day, the little boy got very sick and died.
The woman ran straight to Elisha. Elisha hurried to the boy, and he prayed to God. And God, who is the giver of life, brought the little boy back! He sneezed and opened his eyes, alive and well. What joy!
A jar of oil. A precious child. God cared about both. He cares about our everyday needs and our deepest sorrows - all of it.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- God took the widow's tiny jar and made it plenty. When has God taken something small and made it enough for you?
- God cared about a jar of oil AND a sick child. Is anything ever too small or too big to bring to God?
- The kind woman always made room for Elisha. Who could you show kindness and “make room” for this week?
