Three kings and their armies are stuck in the desert with no water at all. It looks hopeless - until they ask God.
Today's Story
Three kings set out together on a long march, but they took a wrong path through the desert. Soon their water ran out. The soldiers were thirsty, the animals were thirsty, and there wasn't a drop to drink anywhere. They were in big trouble.
One of the kings remembered that God's prophet Elisha was nearby. “Let's ask him! He can tell us what God says.”
Elisha listened to God and gave a strange-sounding instruction: “Dig ditches all over this dry valley. You won't see wind or rain - but God is going to fill this valley with water.”
So they dug and they dug, trusting God even though the sky was clear. And the next morning - can you believe it? - water came flowing into the valley until the ditches were full! There was plenty for everyone to drink.
God provided water in a dry, dusty desert where there was none. When we're in trouble, He can make a way where there seems to be no way at all.
A Big Word
Talk About It
- God told them to dig ditches before there was any water. When is it hard to obey before you can see how it will work out?
- God made water appear where there was none. When has God helped you in a surprising way?
- The thirsty armies finally asked God for help. What is something you could ask God for today?
