Today the prophet Elijah goes up to heaven in the most amazing way - and his helper Elisha picks up right where he left off.
Today's Story
Elijah's work was almost done, and his helper Elisha would not leave his side. “I'm staying with you,” Elisha said, all the way to the end.
As they walked and talked together, suddenly - whoosh! - a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared between them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind! He didn't die like other people. God simply took him straight up in a swirling wind. Elisha watched, amazed, and cried out.
Then Elisha saw Elijah's coat fall to the ground. He picked it up. It was his turn now. Earlier, Elisha had asked for a double share of God's Spirit, so he could serve God just like Elijah had.
Elisha walked to the river, struck the water with the coat, and - just as it had for Elijah - the water split apart so he could cross! The same God who helped Elijah was now with Elisha.
One faithful servant went home to God; another picked up the work. God's good work keeps going on, from one willing helper to the next.

- God's work passed from Elijah to Elisha. How can you help do God's good work today?
- Elisha stayed by Elijah's side to the very end. What does it mean to be loyal like that?
