2 Peter 1 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

2 Peter is a letter Peter wrote to help God's family love God and love each other.

In this part, Peter says God has already given us everything we need to grow.

Today's Story

Peter is one of Jesus' closest friends. He is getting older now, and he wants to write his church family one more letter. He wants to remind them of the most important things before he goes.

So he picks up his pen. “You already have everything you need,” he tells them. “God has given it to you, because you know Jesus.”

Then Peter gives them a picture. He says growing with God is like climbing stairs — one step, then the next, then the next.

Start with trusting God. Then add doing what is good. Then add learning more about Him. Then add stopping yourself when you want to do wrong. Then add not giving up. Then add loving God. Then add being kind to your brothers and sisters. And on top of it all — love everyone.

Step by step, you grow taller in your heart. You do not have to do it all in one day! You just keep adding one good thing, and then another.

“Keep going,” Peter says. “The more you grow, the closer to Jesus you will feel.”
