Acts 12 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

Peter is locked in prison, but God's people are praying — and God has a surprise nobody expects.

Today's Story

King Herod was being cruel to the church, and he threw Peter in prison, with soldiers guarding him on every side. Things looked hopeless! But the believers gathered together and prayed and prayed for Peter, all through the night.

That very night, while Peter slept between two guards, an angel suddenly appeared, and light filled the cell! The angel woke Peter. “Quick, get up!” Instantly the chains fell off Peter's wrists. “Get dressed and follow me.” Peter thought he was dreaming! The angel led him right past the guards, and the big iron gate opened all by itself. They walked out into the street — and Peter was free!

Peter hurried to the house where his friends were praying and knocked on the door. A servant girl named Rhoda heard his voice. She was SO excited and amazed that she ran to tell everyone — and forgot to open the door! Peter just kept knocking! When they finally opened it and saw him, they could hardly believe it. God had answered their prayers!

The believers had prayed, and God did the impossible. He sent an angel, opened the gates, and set Peter free.
