Acts 5 for Kids

For Kids · 4 min with a grown-up

The apostles get in trouble for telling about Jesus — but God sends a surprising rescue.

Today's Story

The apostles were doing amazing things in Jesus' name. Crowds came, and many were healed. God's family was growing fast! But the jealous leaders had the apostles arrested and thrown into jail.

That night, something incredible happened. An angel of the Lord opened the jail doors and led the apostles out! “Go,” the angel said, “stand in the temple and tell the people all about this new life in Jesus!” So at sunrise, the apostles were right back in the temple, teaching about Jesus!

The leaders were shocked. “We put them in jail — how are they teaching again?” They brought the apostles in and scolded them. “We told you to stop talking about Jesus!”

But Peter answered bravely: “We must obey God rather than people.” The apostles would always choose to obey God first, no matter what. A wise teacher said, “Leave them alone. If this is from God, you can't stop it!” So the apostles kept right on telling the good news, full of joy.

  2. Peter said, “We must obey God rather than people.” When might obeying God be different from what others want?
  3. The apostles kept telling about Jesus with joy, even after jail. Where do you think their joy came from?
