In Amos 1, God noticed how the lands all around were treating people. Now Amos turns toward God's own people — because God wanted them to be fair too.
Today's Story
Amos the shepherd kept sharing God's message. He had talked about the lands all around. Now he turned to God's own people.
You might think God would only say nice things to His own people. But God loved them too much to pretend. He had noticed something sad.
Some of them were being unfair. When poor people needed help, they pushed them aside. They cared more about their own stuff than about people who had almost nothing. And then they went to worship as if everything were fine.
So God reminded them of all the good things He had done. “Remember?” God said. “I brought you out of a hard land. I led you the whole way. I gave you a good home.”
God had been so kind to them. And He wanted them to be that same kind of kind to the people around them — especially the ones who did not have much.
It was a gentle nudge from a loving God: I took care of you. Now go take care of each other.
A Big Word
Memory Verse
Talk About It
- Think about something kind someone did for you this week. How did it make you feel?
- God said, “Remember how good I was to you.” When we remember the good things God gives us, why does that make it easier to be kind to other people?
- Who is someone you know that could use a little extra help right now? What is one thing you could do for them?
