For Kids · 3 min with a grown-up
Amos asks some fun questions in this chapter — like, “Do two friends walk together unless they have agreed to?” Each one helps us see how close God wants to be with us.
Today's Story
Amos liked to help people picture things. So he asked some questions everyone already knew the answer to.
“Do two friends go on a walk together,” Amos asked, “unless they planned to meet up first?” Of course not! You walk with someone because you know them.
“When a lion roars out in the wild,” Amos asked, “doesn't everyone stop and listen?” Of course they do! A big sound makes you pay attention.
Amos was showing the people something. God was like a friend who wanted to walk close beside them. And God was like a loud, important voice they needed to stop and listen to.
Amos said God never does something big without first telling His messengers, so the people can hear. God always speaks first. He does not surprise people. He warns them, because He cares.
It was like a loving grown-up calling out, “Careful — come this way!” God was inviting His people to turn around, walk close to Him, and treat each other right.

Talk About It
- When was the last time a grown-up warned you about something to keep you safe? What did they say?
- Amos said God is like a friend who wants to walk close beside you. What do you like to do with a really good friend?
- A loud lion makes everybody stop and listen. What helps you stop and listen when God or your family is trying to tell you something important?
